Fall Fishing in the Fraser Valley
September / October / November

Fall fishing in the Fraser Valley is considered World Class for good reason. There is know where else in the province that offer's better fishing for all 5 species of salmon. From mid September to early December there is millions upon millions of salmon migrating up one of the largest salmon bearing rivers in the world. The Fraser River has hundreds of feeder streams and smaller rivers like the Harrison that are choked full of salmon. Every stream, river, slough or ditch that has water will have salmon racing up, taking position for it's winter spawning ritual. Anglers from around the world converge on this area ever Fall for it's abundant salmon runs and wildlife viewing opportunities. It's not uncommon to hook into all 5 species in one day of fishing.

Pink salmon are the first to enter the river in the Fall right after our summer sockeye fishery. They will be the dominant species in the river ( odd years only) until the Coho and Chum salmon begin to arrive in late September. Pink salmon will number in the millions, in 2001 we had a astounding 20 million Pink salmon return. These fish are great for the novice to expert angler looking for steady and fierce action. Pink salmon are the easiest of the 5 salmon species to catch. This fishery is incredible to say the least, a good day can yield well over 40 fish per angler. Fly fishing or spin casting are the two best methods.

Coho runs are not as large as the Sockeye salmon and Pink salmon runs but good numbers of fish are found throughout the Fraser River and tributary rivers. We usually start targeting the Coho by the first week in October. These fish are one of the more challenging of the 5 species to catch. The water is gin clear so fish can spook easily. We target Coho with the fly and spoons from early October to late November, some years we are still catching Coho right into December. We also offer remote Coho fishing ( fly only) on one of British Columbia's last remaining wild Coho Rivers.

Chum salmon are becoming one of the more sought after species in the Fall for several reasons. The shear numbers and size of these fish offer the sport angler and great challenge. These fish range from 10 - 20 lbs and will readily take a fly or spoon. These fish are pound for pound the strongest of all salmon species. Those screaming sounds of the reel that all anglers dream of are realized on just about every hook up. This past season our record hook ups on Chum Salmon was 14 fish on 14 casts, not bad eh! The best time to experience the great chum fishing is between mid October to late November.

We also fish for late run Chinook (Kings) which are one of the largest strains growing up to as much as 50lbs or more. These fish are not easy to catch but when you do, hang on to that rod. We start fishing for Kings as early as September when they first enter the river. Our most productive method is back trolling plugs or casting spoons. Once the majority of fish are in the river we begin to target them on the fly. Our American and European clients consider the King Salmon the catch of all catches.
