BC Boat & Sportsman Show coming soon.
March 5, 6 & 7th at the Abbotsford Tradex Center.
The BC Boat & Sportsman show is by far one of the best hunting, fishing & boating shows in BC. Most of the major tackle representatives will be there with the latest and greatest in fishing and hunting equipment.
Hells Canyon Marine is back again this year with the latest innovations in Jet Boat design. HCM has been leading the industry in specialty designs for any application. Whether you're a Whitewater fanatic like myself, prefer to run shallow technical rivers, a fishing guide looking for that edge or a recreational boater wanting an all round boat, HCM will have a bit of everything at this years show.
They will be displaying their new 17 footer, 20 ft and 22 ft jet boats.

Jet Boat Tours
Come join us for some exciting whitewater jet boating this spring. We are currently selling seats for our Hope to Hells trip for April 10, 2010. Should be a great trip, cost is $99 and includes our barbeque lunch.

Spring Sturgeon Fishing Adventures

There are two times of year when Sturgeon fishing in British Columbia reaches it's best, spring brings our annual migration of the Eulichans (small bait fish) to the Fraser River to spawn. Food in winter is scarce so when the Eulichans arrive the Sturgeon are eager to feed, it's not uncommon to hook 15 to 20 fish in a 6 hour trip.
Best Fishing - April 15 to March 31
Fly-fishing for Sea Run Bull Trout
The Upper Pitt River offers some of the best fly and spin fishing opportunities for sea- run trout found anywhere in British Columbia. This remote river is located only 45 minutes from Mission so you can do day trips or overnight stays.
Each high tide brings a fresh run of fish into the lower reaches of the Upper Pitt River. We begin targeting this bright chrome fish in mid May with fantastic fishing opportunities through June until mid to late July. Some of the best fishing occurs between May 21 to Jun 31. These fish reach as much as 14 lbs with an average size of 4 to 8 lbs. incredible action on the fly and light spinning tackle.
We are now booking for our May - June 2010 Sea-run Bull Trout Fishery. This trip is limited to 2 boats per day so book now for best dates.
Regular rate - $750 for 2 anglers
Spring Special Rate - $650 for 2 anglers
We are full from June 6 to 12 but still have dates available in the 1st, 3rd and 4th week.
Peak Sturgeon & Salmon Fishing
As most of our guests know, the best season for both salmon and sturgeon takes place in the late summer through until mid November. Already we are seeing some large group booking for this time period as well as many groups from overseas. Although we still have many prime dates available for fishing, our accommodation availability is starting to get thin.
Fraserview Anglers Retreat
We still have the last two weeks of June available if your wanting to stay with us for the trout fishing season. July is not available, August is half booked. We still have Sept 12 to 24 available but unfortunately October is almost full.
Available dates in October - Oct 2,3,4 all rooms, Oct 15,16 all rooms, Oct 27-22 ( fly room & spare room).

November is still pretty open, Nov 3 to 15 is available.
Best Western is subject to availability but for the most part we can accommodate groups. The Above & Beyond is starting to fill up for prime dates in August, Sept & Oct, please call or e-mail me for available dates.
Fraser Valley Fishing Update
Fraser River
The Fraser River has been fishing very well for Cutthroat Trout. In fact many of our local fly fishers are reporting some of the best winter fishing in many years. This may be due to warmer weather trends and the fact that this past fall we have 20 million Pink Salmon spawn in the Fraser.
The Pink Salmon fry will be the first to hatch and because of the warm weather, we can probably expect this years hatch to come off a bit earlier than normal. Best fly fishing will be in the main channel anywhere Pink Salmon spawned. Try fishing any of the bars between Herling Island and mouth of the Vedder. For shore access, try Peg Leg, Herling Island or Agassiz/Rosedale Gill Rd access.
Sturgeon
We were on the water this past week with some Olympic guests from Czechoslovakia. Although sturgeon are still mostly in winter mode, we did manage to land 4 nice fish with one over 5 ft. Water temperatures are still below 40F but we can expect a slow warming over the next few weeks.

If you're looking for a great spring fishing adventure, sturgeon/steelhead combo makes for a great angling vacation.
Vedder River Steelhead
Water conditions on the Vedder are excellent, visibility is good, water is a bit high but will steadily drop over the next few days. Fishing this past week has been very good. STS Guides Thomas and Gerry have both been doing very well. Yesterday Thomas had a great day on the water, landing 5 steelhead, Gerry landed 2.
Most of the fish are being caught by anglers float fishing with salmon eggs or shrimp tails. Short floating seems to be the preferred presentation and is producing the best results. For fly anglers, best to fish the lower river where runs are larger and tail outs seems to be the preferred holding area's for steelhead. The mid river area between Bolder run and Vedder crossing is producing some nice fish but most of this water is best fished with float rod set up.
Trout fishing in the Valley
The Upper Pitt River sea-run Bull Trout fishery is almost hear. End of May through the month of June is best. Book now as we limit the number of anglers per day on this river. Last year our biggest trout was 12 lbs but we did manage quite a few fish between 8 to 10 and lots of 4 to 6 lb trout. Our best day was 40 fish on the fly so don't miss out on this world-class fishery. Check out these fish from last year.

There are several local rivers that offer some great winter trout fishing on the fly. Although these rivers can sometimes be difficult to reach due to bad weather, they are definitely worth the effort. We will continue to offer guided trout fishing throughout the winter for those anglers looking for some real adventure. Harrison River
The Harrison River can produce some good results for cutthroat trout during the winter months. Fishing egg patterns under a float with a drift rod or fly rod is a great way to entice them; also fly-fishing with streamers and minnow patterns can work well. One fly that should not be overlooked in the winter is the Flesh fly using a down stream dead drift presentation. If you're not planning on hitting the flow over the winter, spend some time on our fly tying gallery, you will find hundreds of fly patterns to choose from.
